I agree about Northern CA having a very high woof quotient, and the seeming blandness of the local HOG chapters. I rode with the Sonoma Chapter and found the folks pretty mainstream, but of course the high RUB numbers there tend to water things down. No one wants to blow their cover and reveal that they are really dentists/lawyers/real estate agents, so it's a kinda bland crowd. Yet, once in a while... One event was attended by a guy who caused the panting, tongue-out AOOGAH! reaction you see on old Tex Avery cartoons. Tall, blonde and incredibly built, he looked like Marvel Comics bearded version of Thor in biker gear. He hit all of my superhero geek AND biker buttons, and it took a huge amount of effort not to stare, slack-jawed and boned up. Made all the waiting and watching worthwhile.
