Dear lazywebs... again
Feb. 5th, 2010 06:33 pmOK, I've got a new Brother hl-2170w printer that is supposed to print wirelessly. During setup, they suggest connecting it to the wireless router with a cable. This does not work. Symptoms:
- The wireless computer, on which I am trying to set up the printer driver, does not find the printer.
- While printer is plugged in with definitely-working Ethernet cable, the indicator lights on the printer and the router come on briefly when printer is powered up, but do not come again.
- The router configuration page lists both computers that are connected to the router - one wired, one wirelessly - but does not list the printer as a connected device.
I'm guessing that the printer is not being happy with the router for some reason. Suggestions?
I hate not knowing anything about networking...
Update: For some reason, I had to do a factory reset of the printer. Despite it being brand new. This is a somewhat arcane ritual involving a little dance and some chicken blood. But now everything works just fine.
