Adventures In Marrying
Jun. 6th, 2010 08:09 amThe wedding yesterday went well, though there were a few adventures.
The van got stuck, on a very innocent-looking patch of ground that seemed very solid when I drove on to it. But after unloading and attempting to back out? Not so much. Every effort to back up only took me closer to the edge of the ditch. The father of the bride had to get his truck and tow me out. D'oh! Fortunately everyone had a sense of humor about it all and the wedding was not delayed.
The party was held outdoors on the worst terrain I've ever worked on, and just in case there weren't enough trip hazards, they decorated the area with dozens of foot-high flowerpots. We can be grateful that the 2" of rain happened the day before...
My assistant was awesome. She's a 20 year old motorcross fanatic, and strong as an ox. To reload the van we had to park more than 50 yards away from the party site, and she hauled nearly all the gear herself! I paid her extra.
The food service went very well and the guests were hugely enthusiastic. Glad it's over!
