Between gigs
Aug. 31st, 2010 07:58 amHaving a few days of rest with
sierrabiker and friends in Oakhurst before heading to Badger. Boy, am I pooped! The Guards run was only 50 people, and there was a great kitchen to work in, but it was relentless. For some reason, this run takes an incredible amount of work. They have huge appetites, and their schedule is demanding. It kept me in the kitchen with only a few breaks from 6 AM to 8 PM pretty much every day. I'm sore all over!
Next year, it's the Guards 25th anniversary, and Jack said he wants to get 100 registrants. With both John and Bill now mutinying against working on this run, and the Badger 50th anniversary coming up, I told him I wouldn't be able to do the cooking. It's just too much having the two runs back to back like this.
I feel a little bit bad about this - I made it real easy for them the past three years, and maintaining this standard of cuisine for twice the number of people is not going to happen whether I'm there or not. Well, they might get themselves a real chef, but it would certainly cost more.
Today, some grocery shopping for the pre-Badger crowd, and tomorrow, we're headed up the mountain. Back after Labor Day.
