Doggie Downer
Jan. 19th, 2011 10:12 amKitsune had a hard time getting up yesterday, and this morning can hardly stand at all. We're taking her to the vet shortly. She is in good spirits and not apparently in any pain, but she refuses to move on her own.
Of course I am terrified that it might be rabies, but there are only a couple of cases a year in all of California - the chances are miniscule, and if that's what it was, she wouldn't be eating or drinking. Most likely, it is joint inflammation caused by Lyme disease, which is easily treatable, or hip dysplasia, which is not. I hope it's going to clear up soon.
[Update: The vet thinks it's either lyme, or a reaction to her recent vaccinations, or some combination of the two. She is on antibiotics now and if it's lyme she will be better by Friday. Otherwise, we take her in again. She is doing better than she was in the morning, and was able to get up long enough to go outside and relieve herself.]
