The frame is unchanged. Painting it would be very difficult, you'd have to take apart the whole bike!

It should unlock like a chinese wooden puzzle!... or not.

The lids have an unusual, untapered profile to them. What were the design intents? I see that you can really pack a camping burrito across them if you wanted to.

I was going to strongly suggest you never put travel stickers on the bags in an attempt to use reverse psychology on you, but I'm also feeling a "surprise me" kind of vibe to the bags, not unlike the homeess guy who stitched his own clothes from leather squares and walked around in a great big circle with specifically timed stopping points.

It's the same construction pattern used in my catering crates. The angles are chosen so to get around the springs and taillight and stuff while still having a reasonably large box. Their general weirdness is just icing on the cake.

That's hard work cutting all those angles for the trim! Are they and your catering boxes made of teak? Or are you planning on lotsa polyurethane waterproofing or oiling?

Definitely something I would not think of doing, but I suppose all the more reason to do it! I look forward to seeing it all close up at QBT.

The angles were not too bad. I had a guy make 1000 feet of the custom molding I use on the edges, and that's actually the hard part. Waterproofing is done with linseed oil. They aren't really intended for rain, I'm more of a fair-weather rider these days. Maybe giant blue rubber shower caps might help.
