Day before yesterday we went to San Jose to pick up the plants and do final cleanup. The work never seemed to end! Anyway, I felt kind of wistful on leaving the house for the last time.

We had dinner at the Naglee Park Garage, where we were foiled earlier at breakfast. I've only eaten there a few times. Why would we eat out two blocks from our own house? Usually we only do so when we're away from home. But without a kitchen, it made sense.

It's really, really good. It's very small, with counter service, a bar, and an old cement floor. Totally straightforward dishes, served a la carte with your choice of sides. The evening light was streaming in the front door, making it one of the most beautifully illuminated dinners ever.

Almost enough to make me feel sorry about leaving town. But, as fate would have it, I was seated facing this wall:

Crappy photo, but it reads: "Makes you glad you live around here. Anderson Valley Brewing Company". Now, the Anderson Valley is a long way from San Jose, but it just happens to be right over the hill from our home in Ukiah.

So... um, yeah, that's right! I think this is what superstitious people would call a "sign". ;-)

That food looks fabulous. And the warm light hitting the food just enhances it.

I'm a sucker for anything illuminated by the sunset.

I do, although my time in Ukiah has been so limited that whenever I'm up here there's no time to socialize. So ironically I only see him at Sturgis. Now that I'm here I realize I don't have their contact info! So I would be well pleased if you would email it to me at aberno at rakko dot org. ;-)

Even non superstitious people would call that a sign... others might call it an 'omen' :) sorry I couldn't help the smart aleck remark... Hope you're settling in up there.
