Yay water

Just completed another expedition to the top of the property for mapping purposes. I've figured out why I always get lost up there - there are no fewer than five separate gulleys coming down the hill across the width of our land, and they all look the same. Nothing is visible from anywhere unless you're right on top of it, and even if you know exactly where something is you might have to take a substantial detour to get there because the gullies are so narrow and deep. This is easily the most confusing terrain I've ever dealt with.

Anyway, GREAT FANTASTIC news. A substantial spring that I had initially thought was on our neighbor's property turns out to be almost certainly on our own. Using the most pessimistic individual measurements, it is still 10 feet on our side. Using the average readings, the margin is more like 100 feet. I need to do the critical measurements again on another day, but unless the GPS is giving me radically wrong values, I'm pretty much convinced.

I also found an old marijuana garden up there, probably from 20-30 years back. I thought it might have been some sort of corral from the pre-subdivision sheep ranching days, but a few decaying plastic seedling pots kind of gave it away. Boy, those guys really had to lug their stuff a long way. But they chose well - until I got serious about understanding the terrain, I had failed on two different occasions to find it again after our initial discovery.

There's lots of stones around to build a nice little pool that, with luck, will be full all year. I'm trying to find a source for some bentonite clay, which expands when wet and is often used to line reservoirs, but no luck so far.

Boy, if we get the kind of water I'm hoping to get from this, it's going to be GREAT!
