Headed up to Ukiah today, with much of the camp kitchen crammed into the back of the Beetle. It isn't coming back!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. I'm not very good about observing such things, but today is a little bit special. First night in the new place! I'd light up a cake but there would be so many candles it would probably burn the whole house down, and though that would be rather ironic, it would also kind of suck.

Gotta prepare a home for Sparky and Bikerfish, our two koi, and check out some water-tolerant flooring for the kitchen. (Bamboo is NOT going to work in there.)

I've been thinking of a low-pile carpet for my fantasy house's kitchen - especially now that home carpet cleaners are relatively inexpensive. Of course, I can be a bit of a klutz, and having frangible things not shatter if I drop them (as would be more likely with a stone or tile floor) is an advantage for me.

we of course all have different ideas, but I can think of very few things I would never do in a house but carpet in a kitchen is one of them.

Short-pile synthetic carpet that's ScotchGuard-ed up the wazoo, with some nice carpet pad under and a Bissell ProHeat carpet cleaner in a nearby cupboard. ;)

Or at least some nice washable throw rugs with a good non-skid backing.

Congratulations!

And I like your new icon-by-the-river thingy.
