snousle: (river)
[personal profile] snousle
I get a good number of readers wondering how to pronounce my user name. Hard to know, since it is a word that was made up by Carl Sandburg for the poem "Galoots", and apparently it was never used again anywhere in English literature. I thought it was a remarkable find, like discovering a hundred-dollar bill lying on a busy sidewalk.

In the context of the poem, one might conclude that it was inspired by a combination of "snout" and "gristle", and should therefore use the sounds from those words.

Sorry, not snooty enough. I prefer the Classical French pronunciation, [snul].

Since you're from Canada, I just have fun watching you try to pronounce the word: "About."
