An unanticipated side effect of switching domain hosts: I can't get my spam!

Seriously, it's got me a bit concerned. GoDaddy's spam controls appear to be purely decorative - turning it off has no effect, and nothing ever gets diverted to the "bulk email" folder. I know for a fact that my domain gets hundreds of spams a day, and when I send "spammy" messages to myself, they don't arrive.

Thing is, if I can't review what's being marked as spam, how can I know that I'm not losing legitimate email in the process? Turns out I'm not alone, and the Web is full of complaints about their spam filtering methods.

Sigh...

I host my domain's email on godaddy and have discovered that they do a pretty good job of filtering spam. **BUT** on occasion I have had friends/business associates/etc. give me a phone call to ask me why I haven't answered their email. But overall, I don't believe I'm missing anything important... I hope.

I did a whole bunch of tests. Whenever I write something "serious" sounding, it gets through. But if I include text like GENU1N# V1AGRA it almost always gets filtered out.

I have mail servers on two domains, the one hosted on godaddy and another I host on a local linux box. The quantity of spam I get on the second box is fucking unbelievable.

Oh, I know - with no filtering at all I'm probably at >1000 spams/day. Verio had so-so filtering but about 50/day still got through. Having it go down to 2 or 3 has made me kind of nervous. If the filtering is really that good, and I'm not losing anything, it's cause for celebration! I just find it hard to believe it could work that well, particularly since the "off" switch does not function.

I find it more comforting to be on the 'knee' of this curve. i.e. receiving at least some spam and not fearing that some legit e-mails are being blocked.

That's a staight line if I ever heard one.

Reading your entry, particularly the subject line I felt a quick need to sing some Bob Dylan. (with appoligies to Mr Dylan, folk music devotes and music lovers in general) (sung to the tune of "Where have all the flowers gone?")
Where has all the spam gone,
Long time passing,
Where has all the spam gone,
Long time ago?
Filters picked them every one.
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?...
I think I will stop now before an angry crowd gathers.

OMG! That means you're missing out on receiving a bunch of hairy bearded helmeted Vikings singing "SPAM". Tsk-tsk... what a loss.
