From the world of climate-change politics, I've noticed a bizarre thing come up a couple of times now. Several right-wing organizations that support the scientific consensus on climate change have been accused of opposing that view, and have had to issue "denial denials" in order to clarify their positions. Hard to know what to make of that.

An apparently fake scandal involving the American Enterprise Institute is summarized on Wikipedia

The US Chamber of Commerce's denial-denial is on their Facts Page.

[And yes, there are quite a few conservative, right wing, business-friendly organizations that agree with the science community on climate change. It really isn't a right-vs-left issue as one might think.]

And yet...

...do you doubt for one second that, if ordered to do so by their funders, either of these organizations would hesitate to deny the denials of the denials and go on full bore smear mode towards the real science and the real scientists? I don't.

I think that pretty much all "respectable" institutions have at least some motivation to not veer too far off the rails. Even the Cato Institute, run by the Kochtopus himself, is careful to not directly contradict scientific evidence in their statements about climate change - they merely interpret the evidence so as to give the benefit of doubt to short-term profit at every opportunity.

Quite seriously, the exaggerations of the left are really bad too. Short-term catastrophe is not nearly as likely as environmentalists suggest, and there have many departures from the scientific consensus on the alarmist side that make me want to cringe.

The one thing that all climate change supporters need to say, but don't say: STOP HAVING BABIES!

If only the world would discover the joys of masturbation....
