Getting things done

I'm slowly recovering from the shock of relocation. Jeebus, it seemed to happen fast. A flash of blinding light, and I was in an elegantly appointed doctor's office a house in the country. Dang! I mean, it went from really abstract to really real in the blink of an eye.

I'm finding it difficult to be completely enthusiastic about good fortune when it seems that so many people around me are experiencing bad fortune. It's something I dwell on a lot, particularly now.

So I'm not really inclined to go on and on about things. But yeah, this is the best thing in the world. Ever. Straight out of Sunset magazine. There is no way in hell I'd want anything else. When they take me out of this place, it's going to be feet first.

Lots to do in the next week. We still have to go back and clean up, get the koi, dispose of our hazardous waste (which the county makes so much more difficult than just sneaking it into the trash), and get a pile of junk hauled. Sunday is the Satyrs beer bust at the Eagle, which is not optional. And we'll have to make at least one more trip for John to get his bike.

The wireless antenna, by the way, is much less touchy now that it's oriented the proper way. I was trying to use it vertically rather than horizontally. Ooops. Bill set up a pole and mounted it in the proper orientation, having actually bothered to read the instructions.

Plumbing is far more complicated than I had expected. There was a strange noise coming from our flash water heater, which I thought was motor noise being conducted down from the pumphouse. Bill insisted it was something inside the heater. Yet it came on even when using only cold water. Well, it turns out that the drop in pressure in the cold water line causes the hot water heater to flow backwards. When the pressure drops enough, the pump kicks in, raising the pressure and re-filling the hot water line. The flow is enough to turn on the flash heater, which then turns on its fan, which for some reason is vibrating and making a loud and annoying noise. I suspect that this effect will be greatly reduced when the guest bathroom comes on-line, as the pipes are probably still full of air.

The kitchen is still not in, so I'm getting water from the laundry room and cooking on the porch. It's sort of strange to be camping indoors like this. But awfully fun, sort of like when you were a kid and the power went out. You almost hate to have it to come back on.

But you'd be providing all your own water. ;)

You have to shower in the main bath, though. Room for about six in there. ;-)

Six in the shower?!

I feel your pain

I had to wait two weeks before I had gas and hot water at my place in Spain. You can't just turn on the gas, you have to get everything inspected and approved, even for existing homes. During those two weeks I "had to" go to a "sauna" in Barcelona in order to take a shower. Somehow my 3-minute shower turned into 3 hours.

Well, we do have hot water and all that, so it's not really very inconvenient. It's a little weird camping with granite countertops, though. ;-)

Sounds idyllic, A. When do you and the guys anticipate being open for business?

Could be pretty soon, in theory. The commercial kitchen install should happen in about two weeks, but I don't know how long the health department will take to approve it. Probably not long. So maybe in a month?
