Oh dear: a result that had, until now, served as the mathematical cornerstone for the game-theoretic account of ethical behavior has been overturned.

I would have expected an epidemic of rioting, widespread arson, the end of civilization, and an outbreak of general discourtesy in the wake of this discovery, but it seems as if nothing has changed. Don't people realize that good behavior is once again mathematically illogical?

Maybe it's because nobody actually understands the article.

And yet, we continue to cooperate and engage in good behaviour.

The idea that common-sense morality has a natural, mathematical foundation has been thrown into question. A lot of people, myself included, thought that it would be best described by a mixture of mathematical game theory and evolutionary psychology. This reflects a huge change in everyone's understanding of that model. The metaphysical implications are profound.
