I had been wondering if the Ukiah area would ever see a new gay resident. The guys I know here have all been living here a LONG time. Then today, out of the blue, I met three!
The first was a strapping 40something bear who caught my eye in Rayley's. Even though I cruise all day, I am so accustomed to the utter futility of it here in Mendo that I sometimes get intensely shy when anyone actually returns my glance. So I must confess that I tried to avoid him at first. But he pursued me and caught me in the beer section, and we traded numbers. He seems like a real nice guy, and lives just across Boonville Rd, only a couple miles from here as the crow flies but more like eight miles by road. He's in the process of building a home for himself; like me, he now works over the internet and saw no reason to remain in the city. Should be interesting.
Then there were a couple of new guys at our regular Wednesday lunch, an architect who recently moved up from Sonoma County, and his partner, who I met somewhere before and I believe is retired(?). They live together at the south end of town.
Maybe the start of a new trend?
