During a trip to Israel, Mitt Romney hailed the nation’s health care system for holding down costs and broadening coverage more effectively than the U.S. The irony: Israel contains costs by adopting a very centralized, government-run health care system — anathema to Romney’s GOP.

Read it and weep.

It's popular to crack off snappy remarks about Romney's foot-in-mouth disease, but he's not stupid. He knows exactly what he's doing. He knew what he was doing when he made his "gaffe" (not) about English preparedness for the Olympics; he was stoking the "USA! USA! USA! USA! WOOOOOOO! GREATEST COUNTRY EVARRRR!!!11!!" crowd back home. He knew what he was doing when he said Israel is awesome because they're rich and Palestine is poopy because they're poor; he was tonguefucking Sheldon Adelson and the rest of his wealthy-Americans-with-checkbooks crowd. This "gaffe" about healthcare is nothing of the sort, either; any cognitive dissonance will be obscured by the overweening adulation he's heeping on Israel which, he has made clear, is beyond any and all reproach or critique. Just like America.

It reminds of Rush Limbaugh threatening to emigrate to Costa Rica if the ACA was passed by Congress without first reading up about healthcare in Costa Rica.

Here in Spain CIGNA has advertised private health insurance for 60 € a month, for a family of 4.
