Had a fantastic ride to Boonville yesterday afternoon to visit Dave L. I think I was the very last gay long-haul biker in the country that had never stayed there overnight. Close to last, at least. Well, no more.

We live 10 miles apart as the crow flies, but it's kind of roundabout to get there from here.

En route, I finally found where Butler Ranch Road comes down onto 253. Still not sure about McNab Ranch Road. None of these are marked, and there is nothing to distinguish them from the many private driveways. Anyway, I explored about half a mile up from the highway - not bad, a little rough and steep but no show stoppers. If I had continued for another 5 miles I would have arrived home again via a route I have yet to try in its entirety, but since it's all unpaved it's a long slog.

(I've found that the bike has a sweet spot in first gear at 14 miles per hour; it starts handling like a tractor, and becomes steady and firm going up steep hills. It's slow enough that you hug the bumps, so it's a bit of a bouncy ride but without much in the way of hard shocks. Once you get used to it, the feeling is quite mellow no matter what the surface.)

JEEEBUS this area is beautiful in the fall. The leaves go from green to orange, while the hills go from brown to green. Every landscape shows a different palette. I have photos but they don't capture the lushness of it. The isolation and silence of the mountains is just overwhelmingly wonderful, like being able to breathe again.

Lounging by a wood stove in your long underwear is the greatest thing on the planet. We must get one very soon ourselves, particularly since John's a polar bear and I'm simply too cheap to turn the furnace on. (The flue is there, we merely need to install the stove.)

We watched a couple tivoe'd episodes of Sons of Anarchy and I have to say I was favorably impressed. I suppose it's old hat in the post-Sopranos era but it's encouraging to see a show dwell seriously on the consequences of violence rather than just shootin' things up. I definitely see some positive trends in the few bits of TV I see per year. And need I mention that Clay has got to be the hottest TV character ever? HI DEF SHOWS YOU EVERY BRISTLE!!! OH DADDY!!!

Also interesting was how the show's camera techniques gave a very realistic impression of what it's like to ride a motorcycle. Of course there's rather more drama than the typical rider finds in an hour, but I thought their camerawork did a great job of illustrating what it feels like.

OMG Clay... Did I mention how hot he is? It was sort of hard to concentrate on the story because every time he flashed those wonky teeth of his I melted a little.

There's only two episodes left in the season; I could send you a DVD of the whole thing (not in HD) when it's all over, if you like.

If it were convenient to do so I'm sure I would enjoy it!

Apparently there is some other extremely hot character that I didn't see in the episodes we watched.

Well - not knowing which episodes/characters you saw, it's hard to say who you might be referring to, but Opie is my personal favorite amongst the regular SAMCRO members:
