Cold, or Flu?

It's actually important to know, because colds are trivial while influenza can kill you (or people you infect). I suspect that 90% of the people who say they have the flu actually have a bad cold. The other 10% may not realize the seriousness of the condition.

I haven't had the flu since I was a kid, and had never gotten the yearly vaccine. Last year, against my better judgement, I let my doctor talk me into getting the flu shot, supposedly because as someone with asthma, I'm more susceptible. I cry bullshit. The asthma wasn't sudden-onset; I'd had it for years, so suddenly requiring me to get the shot because I now have a diagnosis is crap science. I hate shots, and find the flu shot, for me, unnecessary. Especially after my adverse reaction to a tetanus booster last year, I'm very leery of any shots.

yeah I've had asthma since 7 years old and been in the 'risk group' for flu shots.

Did it once, never again, knocked me out with a nasty short version of the flu. 'Mild' reaction my arse.
