Power Schmooze
Feb. 21st, 2009 11:41 amNow that I have a respectable Web presence, the time has come for some face to face marketing efforts. Along those lines, John and I went out to the coast last night for one of the winemaker's dinners at the Mendocino Hotel. Navarro Vineyards was presenting their wines with a seven course Alsatian menu tailored to match them. At $75 per person all inclusive, it was a pretty good deal for what they dished up.
The chef was an interesting guy. He was COVERED in tattoos, from his chin to his knuckles, and although he admitted that he knew nothing about Alsatian cuisine, he studied up on it a good bit, and IMHO he did a bang-up job of it. I was particularly interested in his "smoked sand dab schnitzel", which he made by smoking the breadcrumbs rather than the fish itself. Very clever.
Anyway, we met the hotel owner right away, and fate landed us at a table right next to the winemaker himself, so I got my business cards into all the right pockets. I hope it leads to some further contact. This marketing strategy is SO grueling, I'm not sure how long we can keep it up! LOL.
[BTW, I'm a little angsty on the communications front again, because a test message I sent to my own address from the web page bounced with a strange error:

553 sorry, relaying denied from your location [66.81.65.158] (#5.7.1)
I couldn't make it happen again, though. What gives? It's hosted through GoDaddy and has never done this before. I sure don't want that happening to prospective clients!]
