QBT come and gone
May. 11th, 2009 08:12 amThat was fun! We had about 20 people at this year's Queer Biker Trash party, somewhat fewer than in the past (as I had intended) and more laid back.
Some pictures here. I didn't take any myself, I'm mostly done with photography these days, having taken all the pictures I want! Now, I just sponge off of others. ;-)
It's not all that much "work" in the sense that I mind doing it, but the hard part is sleep deprivation. It's hard to get up at 6 AM to make coffee after going to bed at 1 AM.
The real hard work was cleaning up the hostel (the mossy shack) so as to make it inhabitable again. Bill isn't much for cleaning and organizing, and he'd trashed things up so bad you could hardly even open the door. As it happens, about 20 hours of work and two bags of trash later, there wasn't even all that much "stuff" to deal with. It was just that it had exploded all over the place, and needed to be painstakingly cleaned and re-compactified. Oh, and there was about 20 pounds of bat shit that had to be vacuumed up, starting in the attic. This took many, many hours.
The result was a very nice space in which to hang a sling. Wheee! I've always wanted an old redneck smut shack to play in, and now that we've got one, it's nothing less than the sexiest spot on the planet.
One bit of excitement for the evening was a woofa bottle explosion. A proper woofa bottle costs about a hundred bucks - it needs to be made out of strong, industrial-strength glass - so when a $7 bargain bottle appeared there was much reason for skepticism. I'd never seen one break before, but fortunately they don't send shards of glass flying everywhere like you'd expect. I heard the whole affair from up the hill and came running, and was pleased to see we wouldn't need any midnight trips to the ER. DHP got it on video:
I've always tried to make QBT unusually affordable but this time I increased the suggested donation in order to allow for a smaller group while being slightly profitable as well. The suggestion of $40-60 was less than most runs but it seems I've already passed the peak of the Laffer curve, since the total came in a bit lower than I had expected. All costs were covered but there wasn't much left over.
All told, a great weekend, can't wait to do it again!

Date: 2009-05-12 10:22 am (UTC)As I left I did a quick site survey with a handheld TV. You do in fact get three over the air TV translator stations there at Mosscamp, as observed on my handheld,
K69DF PBS Channel 69
K43AF CBS Channel 43
K39AG FOX Channel 39
But, alas, it seems non one at Mosscamp has any interest in broadcast television. Nor do many other people in this day and age.
I should look for another career than Broadcasting, I suppose....
Increased elevation above ground level would benefit both TV reception and improve internet service with your TranZeo link to Pacific Internet, IMHO.
But I digress...
