I figured out why our little under-counter fridge has such awful temperature control: the light does not go out when you shut the door. So the light warms everything on the top shelf.

Sigh. That probably burned a few hundred dollars of electricity over the past year, too. I cannot believe how crappy today's appliances are.

That is something that no one would have suspected right away! If there a button or something or does the light just stay on?

There is the usual door switch, and it does nothing. Fortunately, for some reason there is a separate switch which I have since turned off.

Stuck switch - or just a craptacular design?

Completely nonfunctional switch. It probably never worked. And the design is otherwise craptacular from top to bottom. It's an $800 unit and it sucks in so many ways.

And I bet it's already out of warranty, right?

Pray tell, how did you confirm this?

If the door switch isn't obvious... camera with a timer? :)

But hey, it’s stainless steel and goes with the radioactive granite countertops, which is all people care about today.

I'm sticking with Corian, just as my ancestors did for generations before me.

i've seen this on a number of commercial lowboys, though they usually don't have any door switch at all. we usually just leave the lightbulb out entirely.

Wow, that is LOLtastic. This is not a Kenmore fridge, but I bet the relevant parts were built by the same people.

The especially funny thing is that it did melt the butter...

After accepting bribes from the Chinese fluorescent lamp lobby, the State Of California passed a law that goes into effect next year, which makes it mandatory that you replace your U.S. made gas-guzzling incandescent light bulb with a fine Chinese compact fluorescent unit.

This will burn cool, and will consume so little energy that you can leave it on forever!

Your problem solved by your government in action!!

I am curious: Where was this refrigerator manufactured?

Like you have to ask? Same place as everything else!
